Boys from Years 5 to 7 streamed in to the school’s theatre to listen avidly to David talk about his writing, his inspirations and to read extracts from his best-selling books The Parent Agency and his current hit Head Kid.
Staff and boys alike laughed and joked with the comedian, answering his questions of what they would do if they could be Headmaster of their school, just like the hero in Head Kid, with suggestions such as: “an all-you-can-eat meat buffet for school meals” and “dressing like clowns on a Friday!”
Year 6 pupil Alfie Cheek enthused: “It was so inspiring to watch David Baddiel! He was extremely funny and he’s my favourite author – I have read all his books. It was really interesting to hear about how he gets inspiration for his stories.”
The Beacon’s Librarian, Katie Turrell says: “We were all enthralled by David’s talk. I am sure he has inspired lots of our budding writers at The Beacon.”
So what did David Baddiel himself think of his visit? “It was great being here at The Beacon - they are a lovely bunch of boys and asked a brilliant set of questions. Hopefully they will carry on reading and hopefully carry on writing.”
