On Thursday 8th February, Bromsgrove Preparatory School’s U13 boys’ hockey team qualified for the National Finals at Millfield School in March.
After a slow start against Bilton Grange losing 0-1, the team bounced back to win their next two games 3-0 v St Hughes and 2-0 v Cricklade Manor. We played exceptionally well versus Foremarke Hall but lost 0-1. We then beat Spratton Hall 3-1 in our last group match to finish off as runners up in our group. In the crucial quarter final we beat St Andrews 3-1 to gain automatic qualification for the national finals. To illustrate how tough our group had been, three of the four semi finalists had come from our half of the draw. In our Sen final versus Dean Close, we played really well, created chances but Dean Close scored the only goal of the game. In our final match we were up against Bilton Grange and despite getting a good share of territory and possession, the game remained scoreless and the game went to golden goal, but remained goal less so went to shuffles. The game eventually went to sudden death shuffles and we just lost. Nevertheless we had achieved our objective of qualifying for National Finals. The boys were superb company all day, gave everything on the pitch and have something special to play for until the end of the season.
