Primary Science and Technology Competition to design a Marble Run

We are  delighted to announce that Bromley High Junior School has won the Cleapps Keepy-Uppy marble run competition for the category Y1 & Y2; and we have also been awarded a special commendation in the category Y3 & Y4.

We are  delighted to announce that Bromley High Junior School has won the Cleapps Keepy-Uppy marble run competition for the category Y1 & Y2; and we have also been awarded a special commendation in the category Y3 & Y4. 

The competition, open to Cleapps’ 22,000 primary school members, required that pupils build a device which keeps a marble in continuous motion for the longest possible time, while also being elegant, innovative, and less than a meter tall. Entrants had to submit a video of their marble run and a poster. 

Our winning pupils, Lucy Sebatch and Madeline Matthews were in Year 2 when they entered the competition. Their design was based on a construction they had begun during our March 2017 Stem week, when the whole school attended an engineering talk and workshop given by managing director of building and civil engineering company, McCoda, Fiona McHugh, and consultant engineer, Fred Nash. 

The special commendation was awarded to Ayushi Sharma and Imogen Hewstone (then in Y3).  The judges said: “Entries were particularly strong, with lots of innovative ideas and among these your pupils made a good showing. Although not one of the main prize winners, we felt that their effort and hard work deserved recognition.”

As a winning school Bromley High Junior’s prizes include a whole school science road show from Bristol ChemLabs, science equipment and resources.
