Gino D'Acampo joins Cranleigh Prep World Book Day celebrations

There was a wonderful buzz at Cranleigh Prep School when Gino D'Acampo joined their World Book Day Celebrations. With a charity breakfast for parents, before a hilarious presentation from Gino, the School raised over £1400 for the charity, Delight.

World Book Day is a day to celebrate the wonder of books and the wide variety of shapes, sizes and genres in which they come.  This year Cranleigh Prep School celebrated non-fiction books, with a particular focus on cookery and food. To share the day, we were delighted to welcome a number of inspiring guests, including Gino D’Acampo, celebrity chef and television presenter, who entertained us all with his hilarious stories of writing and cooking.

Seni Glaister, from WeFiFo challenged us to share dining opportunities, and Kathryn Mills, from the charity Delight, explained to us how the money raised would go towards helping children throughout Surrey enjoy the magic of books.  We are delighted to announce that we raised £1400 for Delight.

The day began with parents joining us for a charity breakfast, after which the entire school was treated to a very entertaining Gino talk. Pupils were encouraged to ask questions and quizzed Gino on his age, his favourite food and even whether he employed a ghost writer to write his cookery books (he doesn’t!).

The rest of the morning was filled with a range of fun and inspiring book related activities, including: tasty food writing; a fabulous flash photography session showing pupils how to capture food on film, lead by school photographer Lillian Spibey; creating recipe poems for friendship and teamwork; an activity on becoming the perfect party planner, which had pupils debating who they would have on their guest list and why, and a final activity where older pupils stole words and ideas from chefs’ cookery books and foodie blogs to create their own delicious poetry. The activities were completed with Mrs Fenton’s food themed World Book Day Quiz, a much-loved Cranleigh tradition.

The ingredients for this wonderful, cookery book inspired event included bucketfuls of fun, a generous helping of laughter, just a splash of costumes and face-paint, and a sprinkling of inspiration for the whole school community.
