Thirty Leehurst Swan pupils from Years 4 to 10 travelled to Exeter to compete in track and field events. The prep school pupils threw cricket balls and the seniors threw shot, discus and javelin. We had runners in every distance as well as hurdles, and both long and high jumpers.
FOUR of our pupils came first in SEVEN events and thus automatically qualify for the nationals in Birmingham! Well done to Immy (300m and 1500m), Eleanor (shot and javelin), Ben (800m and high jump) and Libby (600m)! Many other Leehurst Swan pupils came second in their event and have a possibility of also being called to the finals in - we eagerly wait for news!
The PE staff team was impressed and proud with how organised the pupils were at getting themselves on track for their events, how they encouraged each other from the sidelines during races and the determination they each showed in their events. We have some incredible athletes at the school and the weekly athletics after-school training has been well attended, so the pupils deserve their placings at competitions.
We now look forward to sports day on Thursday 20th June when our athletes will have the opportunity to perform once more in a wonderful mix of events, to show both individual and team strengths.
